“How did you come up with the name 'Audrey & Bear' for your business???”

It’s a question I’m asked quite frequently.

Here are some of the fun speculations I have heard along the way:

Let me start by saying…

My name isn’t Audrey.  My name is actually Rachel.  I have received so many sweet messages from our wonderful customers addressing me by the name Audrey.  And I can totally see how I’ve confused you.  Because it would make sense, right?  But, while I ADORE the name, Audrey isn’t me.

Next…

We don’t sell bears.  We’ve never sold bears.   Not teddy bears.  Not memory bears.   Oh, well…  I guess that’s not entirely true.  We do have this super, darling bear design

But apart from that, nope, no bears here.

SO, WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM?

When you create an Etsy shop, you must give it a shop name.  And with the six gazillion Etsy shops already out there, coming up with a name can be a bit tricky.  Okay, a lot tricky.

Having some ridiculously cute inspiration does make the process is a bit easier.

Meet Audrey.

Oh, this photo makes my heart just melt.   Audrey is the oldest of my two daughters.   She was probably about 18 months old in this picture.   Look at those eyes!!!  Even today, when she looks up at us like this, it is difficult to tell her no.   Audrey is smart, hilariously witty, and has the most generous heart.

Meet Bear.

Yep…  Bear is not a cuddly teddy bear.  He’s our loyal furbaby.

Funny story – My husband, Daniel, and I found Bear, when he was a pup, on the side of the road, in the rain.  Still breaks my heart to think of it!  We rescued him, took him in, and named him Dawson.   We had to return to school at Utah State, so we left him with Daniel’s parents.  When Bear is unhappy about something, he pouts and lets out a groan.  If you didn’t know any better, you could easily assume it was a great, big ol’ bear making that noise.  (Apologies to any hikers we’ve unintentionally scared while out in the woods!)  My in-laws thought it was hilarious.  And by the time we had returned home from school, Daniel’s parents had renamed him Bear.  By then, he was already responding to it, and it just stuck.

Audrey and Bear are inseparable.   They always have been.  As I searched my brain for a name for my new company, I looked back at Audrey and saw that she had climbed into Bear’s bed.

It’s a blurry picture, but you get the idea.  She LOVES Bear!

He is Audrey & Bear.

Beginning from an inspired idea… and now with a company name... we are ready to help  you celebrate life.
